REPORT

Several Team MK members turned up on a beautiful summer's morning for the inaugural Sports Weekender On Road Sprint Triathlon. The previous day had seen off road tri, aquathon and other multi sports events.

Today it was to be conventional triathlon. The course provided a test of 750m open water swimming around a single loop of the water ski lake, a slightly longer than normal but quite fast 22km bike and a testing off road and tricky 5k run. My swim of well under 13

minutes was marred by my usual 'have a packed lunch' T1 experience. I went well on the bike, 5th fastest overall and passing dozens of competitors and coming close to catching team mate Duncan McLaren but never quite managing it, a story that was to repeat itself on the run. Still, after Ironman Austria two weeks ago and a 2km swim and 50 mile bike the day before, it was good to know there was enough gas in the tank for a 1:14:50 and 10th place overall, with the other Team MK athletes all placing well. The event was well run and friendly, a definite plus on the local calendar and recommended for both novices and experienced triathletes alike.
