50 mile TT dream win for Gurney!!!

Icknield Road Club 50

Words by Jason Gurney

At last there was no wind or rain last Sunday for the Icknield RC 50 at Bedford, plus a bit closer than the previous weekends travels. The course on the F1/50 a two lap event that starts at Tempsford then goes up to Sandy turns to go down to Buckden and back twice . I arrived at the HQ with the new bike on its second outing only having ridden it twice with a total of twenty miles on the clock, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the ride but was looking forward to testing the bike out on a longer course.

The first lap seemed fairly good with a time split of 53.47 I was thinking I was on for a 1.48 maybe 1.49 but after the turn at Sandy for the second leg to Buckden I noticed my speed was at least 1-2 MPH quicker, again on the last leg to the finish was quicker and still feeling pretty good with no signs of cramp I started to think of the possibility of getting a new personal best so dug in for the final four to five miles and crossed the line in 1.46.43 taking the club record again by a further 23seconds finishing first and beating Top TT rider Ian Cammish of Planet X, also I have to say he did ride a 50 the previous day in an amazing 1.41.41.

Geoff Perry also chasing club records also did a fine job and now claims the new vets 50 mile record by shaving those all important seconds and reducing his previous record by 2 seconds, the Vets record now stands at 2.01.09 well done!
