=============================================================
Jason rode his first 12 hour event, and smashed the long standing TMK record. He recorded 266 miles, and came 2nd to boot only a couple of miles short of the winner's distance 268. A great achievement.
In hot, windy & blue sky conditions, he pounded the roads around Newmarket with no major problems, except backache. A few brief stops for refreshments, but everything going to plan with 50 miles reached in about 2 hours and 100m in 4-10.
The long standing TMK record event which he has broken was that jointly held by Martin Lee & Mark Holden 22yr & 24 years ago respectively. They both covered 247.52 Martin Lee on the N4/12 (don't think this event is held anymore) and Mark Holden on the regular F1/12.
266 miles is over 22mph, and will be one of the season's top 20 longest distances, although recently Comp record has recently been increased to a staggering 302 miles - that's 12 under the hour 25's!
I was down to ride 2 mins ahead of Jason but as I had completed the Breckland 12 hour the previous weekend, had a weekend off from TTing.
Jason now holds all the senior club records from 10 miles -12 hours except for 25m and of course the 24 hour one might beckon
!? He said last night that he has no plans to ride another '12', but then everyone says that after they have finished! So no mention of the '24' then?
His recovery plans were a curry followed by a well deserved holiday.
Presume that Yvonne drove the official car and Simon Cannings & Katherine Dilks were out and about shouting encouragement, like only 11 hours to go, only 10 hours to go, have you got the time, just one more circuit, etc etc.
