TT Result: Simon Cannings sets TMK seasons best for 25m

Simon with 51-53 was just 11 seconds off Mark Simmons TMK 25m record. when he rode the Port Talbot 25m event at the weekend.  This was obviously a personal best by 2 mins 10 sec (he has set 2 previous pbs this year) and is the fastest ride by a TMK rider over 25 miles this year .  Well done.

Wales is become a popular time trialling venue for TMK members with a number of us making the 2hr+ trip there this year.  So what's the attraction - the sheep?

Well for 25m it is the ski-slope start for this event, where you can hit speeds of 40mph+, and for a similar event held a few weeks ago.  So it is a good place to head in search of a good time and everyone (including the sheep) flock there chasing pbs or competition records.

So it must have been a fast day as Chris Boardman's competition record of 45-57, set on the A34, was eventually beaten, but not by the expected Michael Hutchinson, who rode a 46-04 recently, but his Irish countryman David McCann (personally never heard of him) with 45-54.  Hutch was 'only' second.

Simon's time was good enough for 39th and it can most probably be comfortably assumed that everyone set a personal best time.  The last person only achieved a 57 minute ride, and the DNS will be kicking themselves.

So make a note in your diary for the events next year.

Simon describes the course....
It is a nice hill,  I was about 46mph down it
A couple of miles on SC lanes then onto DC down the hill then hit concrete DC almost pan flat but slightly downhill to turn (bit complicated) then a slight climb over 8 miles to finish. But obviously not up the big hill!
There was no wind and the height drop is something like 100 mtrs :-) so a bit of a cheat but those in the know reckon the SC bit and relatively light traffic make it evens.
Not sure i can agree with them!
