This is a magnificent opportunity to get expert coaching. to improve your transition skills for next year. Every standard is welcome and all standards will gain from the instruction and practice.

We will demonstrate how it should be done, you'll have plenty of goes at it and then we'll leave you with some take away sessions to carry on perfecting your technique. Slick transitions don't just happen! I worked for a whole season in my car park at work jumping on and off my bike, much to the consternation of the security staff.

Please let Robin Dowswell 07942 005408 or Toni Heap know asap. if you are interested.

  • Where: MK Bowl, off V4 Watling Street. Should be able to park on the bowl side
  • When: Saturday February 06th from 10:30am-12:00. Please warm up beforehand, maybe by riding to the venue. The venue will be open from 9:30 so you could do some circuits of the bowl to warm up.
  • Who: BTF level 1 coaches Robin Dowswell and Toni Heap
  • Why: Most triathletes lose seconds if not minutes in triathlon transitions. This is your chance to prepare yourself for the 2010 season and ensure you don't lose time in transition, giving yourself an important edge over your rivals from last seasons.
  • What: We'll be using the concrete perimeter track round MK Bowl for cycling and possibly a short loop (possibly off road ) for runing to simulate Duathlon race conditions. The timed transition area we will use is the same as that for the Big Cow winter Duathlon series. Key points we aim to improve are 1) pre race visualisation, 2) T1 routine, 3) helmet prep, 4) bike shoes on or off the pedals dependent on preference/bike course, 5) running with the bike, 6) speedy mounting, 7) pacing the first 1/2 mile of the bike, 7) spindown before T2, 8) moving dismount, 9) racking and run shoes, 10) pacing the 1st 400m of the run.
  • How: You'll need to bring bike (if weather OK bring your race bike), helmet, running shoes, bike shoes, a towel, talc, race kit, plenty of warm clothes, a drink.

We'll be using the racking that they use in Big Cow winter duathlon races 1&2 and the same transition area so it will be very close to the real race situation. We are also likely to have a BTF referee present which will help simulate race conditions as he will pull you up if you do a helmet violation or dismount your bike too late or commit any other sin, such as nudity (rule 22.5!!).

We hope to practice T1 with wetsuits in a few months time at Emberton or Haversham and hopefully this will involve an open water session as well.
