Road Race

This section is due to be updated. In the meantime here is the spring 2011 trip to Dernia Spain for cycle training.

DATES: 26th March - 2nd APRIL 2011.

After many years of holding the annual spring cycle training camp in Majorca, its now time for a change and 2011 sees the camp being based in Denia, mainland Spain. Organised by "Train in Spain", the camp in summary includes:

Staying at the Ogisaka Gardens Aparthotel, Denia. This is a great location and with our discount offers exceptional value. The apartments have an American kitchen with washing machine, microwave, cooker etc. A bathroom, a lounge with TV and a double bedroom. The lounge also has a very comfortable fold down sofa bed so if you decide to share with a friend you can still have your own sleeping space (much better than the normal twin room hotel option).

Because the apartments are much more spacious than a standard hotel room, you keep your bikes right there with you – no need to worry about where it is being stored.

Our price includes the following:

Saturday luxury coach transfers from Alicante to Denia and return following Saturday AM. Times will be confirmed but in previous years the trip to Denia has been at approx 12.30 pm and the return to the airport around 8 am depending on flights from your chosen airport.

Luxury Apartment Accommodation (with Half Board or Full Board option). Meals are buffet style, eat all you want (drinks not included)

Unlimited access to an excellent gymnasium with spa, sauna, indoor pool and jacuzzi (this is a commercial gym so this is a great perk)

Free Massage from Spa masseur (one per client)

Safe in room for passport and valuables

THE MAIN EVENT . . . 6 1/2 days of guided riding in the Marina Alta area (grouped by ability) for 3-6 hours per day and approx 400 kms- 800kms for the week depending on group ability

Back up support vehicle to carry water, tubes, tools, extra clothing etc.

Cost per person for 7 nights (excluding flights):

Half Board (shared apartment)

£415/Non-cycling guest £335/additional days @ £30

Half Board (Single apartment)

£450 /additional days @ £35

/additional days @ £35

With regard to flights, I've managed to secure a substantial group discount with Monarch Airlines - the Luton /Alicante flight will be circa £85 inclusive of all taxes and additional hold baggage fees. There will be none of the usual worries with regard to bikes being handled roughly by the baggage handlers as arrangements have been made for bikes to be taken from the UK to Spain by van. There'll be no need to dismantle and box your bike, just provide a suitable blanket to keep it warm (and also protect it!) The bike transport fee is £50, which is comparable to the standard airline fee.

************** THE BELOW IS OUT OF DATE. RICHARD WOOD AND KIRSTY BISHOP ARE THE NEW ROAD RACE SECTRETARIES ************

Team Milton Keynes has a strong road racing team, which keeps the club ethos that other racing teams seem to have lost.  The core of the team live in and around Milton Keynes, where they meet for training throughout the winter and during the busier summer months when they can.

We are lucky in Milton Keynes that there is so much racing locally.  From March through to September there is virtually a race every weekend somewhere in Bucks, Beds and Herts (although if you are 1st cat or Elite you will have to travel slightly further).  The Eastern Road Race League and South East and Surrey Road Race Leagues also organise a huge number of good races.  The club runs its popular Monday night time trial series between April and mid-August, which is good training.  And of course we also have the Tuesday night LVRC and Thursday night British Cycling criteriums at the MK Bowl (situated on the V4), starting at 7pm.

The club always has a strong presence at National and Regional races, and there is a niche available for you if you want to join us or have a go at road racing for the first time.  To get in touch with us, email Mike Wragg at mikey_wragg@hotmail.com .  Also remember to check the news feed on the website to see what we’ve been up to!
